"Police have arrested the man they suspect started last month’s Boles Fire, which locals called the most horrible event to ever hit Weed, a small lumber town in Siskiyou County.

Ronald Beau Marshall, a 24-year-old resident of the town, was arrested by the Weed Police Department before noon Saturday morning.

Marshall was arrested on felony counts of arson of an inhabited structure or property, arson of a structure or forest, and arson of property of another. He was booked into Siskiyou County Jail with bail set at $250,000, said Sgt. Justin Mayberry of the Weed Police Department.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome, and our inspectors did a very good job,” said Scott McLean, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Although the investigation took three weeks, “this one actually came to pass relatively quickly. That’s a pretty short period of time.”

Marshall had been a person of interest throughout the Boles Fire investigation.

The fire started in dry grasses near Boles Creek, east of the town, around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 15.

Winds gusting at 45 mph fanned the fire’s spread. It blazed into town before firefighters could respond, quickly engulfing homes, a school and two churches.

The latest reports from Cal Fire say the Boles Fire burned 516 acres, destroying 157 homes and eight commercial structures. Buildings along Weed’s main street and Roseburg Forest Products — the town’s mill and one of its biggest employers — were spared from destruction. More than 4,000 people were evacuated.

A Superior Court judge issued a warrant for Marshall’s arrest. McLean noted that the volume of facts and evidence needed to successfully prosecute arson can make such cases a challenge.

Because of the investigation, Mayberry said he couldn’t discuss details of the case. The investigation will continue, despite Saturday’s arrest.

A phone number listed at Marshall’s address in Weed was disconnected."

Plus: Ad (left) for appearance by global warming alarmist Bill McKibben at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco on 10/14/14 was next to the story about the arrest of the arsonist who started a California wildfire in a logging town. Perhaps for those who still think the fire was started by CO2 and not an arsonist. I just checked the SF Gate again and the McKibben ad (above with banner) has been replaced at least for the moment by an ad for earthquake insurance. Grace Cathedral's website has an ad for McKibben's appearance. Bill McKibben: Updates from the Front Lines of the Climate Fight
On October 14, acclaimed environmentalist and author Bill McKibben will visit Grace Cathedral to describe the current state of global warming through an explanation of the math and science of climate change. He will share updates on the movement working to end our reliance on fossil fuel energy and create a world powered by renewable sources.
