"Unemployment rate in Texas dropped for the fifth straight month, leading to fresh hopes among residents of a strong economic revival. The jobs market improved in Texas as the fresh data suggests unemployment in the state dropped to 4.4 percent. The report released by the Texas Workforce Commission said that during January, the unemployment declined to 4.4 percent from 4.6 percent during the preceding month.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the non-farm jobs in Texas were higher by 20,100. Within a year, employers have provided 392,900 additional jobs in Texas.

Texas Workforce Commission member Hope Andrade said, "This latest labor market data indicates that our state is approaching the 12 million jobs milestone, with 11,769,600 jobs now in Texas." 

The lowest unemployment was recorded in the Midland area at 2.6 percent. In McAllen-Edinburg-Mission region, highest unemployment at 8.3 percent was recorded.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott urged businesses to work towards bringing better working environment in the state for competing on a global scale. The governor added that the positive data is a strong indication of the strength of the Texas economy.

Governor Abbot said, "By diversifying investments, streamlining regulations and reducing the business franchise tax, we will cultivate an even stronger, more effective economy where all Texans are afforded the opportunity to innovate and to prosper.""
